MegaSkills Teaches Academics
How MegaSkills® Began
Dear Friends:

In this special web page, you will find activities and approaches that build true partnership in learning between home and school. These materials introduce easy ways to teach these important habits, behaviors and attitudes children and adults need to succeed: confidence, motivation, effort, responsibility, initiative, perseverance, caring, teamwork, common sense, problem solving and focus. I call these "MegaSkills®:" they are the inner engines of learning and they can be taught in homes and schools everywhere.

I began the nonprofit Home and School Institute in the 1960's with a basic question: What is it that every family can do to help every child succeed?

Our children have to know more and have to be able to learn more...and we have it in our power to help them...especially when we work together.

Today, there is research that says: Families are important educators of their children. Not too many years ago, parents were told, "Hands off, you don't know how to do it." No longer. Schools are recognizing that not even the best school can do the job alone. Today, across the nation, there is readiness for educational teamwork as never before.

In this web site you will find a sampler of easy to use, tested activities from The Home and School Institute Programs. We invite you to use these web site materials, to share them (if you wish, downloading them and reproducing them with credit to MegaSkills and the Home and School Institute).

I invite you to contact the Institute to find out how the MegaSkills Programs can work for you in your community. And take a moment to review the HSI Publications list to see which books you'd like to own.

We all want the best for our children. Thank goodness, the best is within everyone's reach.

Best wishes,
Dorothy Rich, Ed.D.
President, The Home and School Institute
